Stringing Popcorn

  I remember as kids going to Grandma Crady's and getting to string popcorn.  Then we would make these ornaments that I think were printed on the fabric.  I remember using yarn to be able to hang them.  Anyway, I realized the kids had never strung Popcorn, so we did.  That lasted all of ten minutes...and in my head I had this picture where I would be baking cookies and there would be Christmas music on in the background and everyone would be smiling and laughing.  Here's what really happened.  The kids were arguing blaming each other for the string getting tangled, meanwhile instead of stringing the popcorn, they were eating it, the Christmas music was just added noise and the Christmas cookies?  I couldn't find the damn Chocolate Chips I bought.  Probably left them at the store...Brown sugar is also missing.  Ugh.  Oh yeah--and I ended up stringing the popcorn myself...for like two hours...and cleaning up all of the pieces that went flying.  But the pictures were taken before the arguing began.

 

 

Allergy Testing

We finally got Trevor allergy tested.  And can you tell I take the camera everywhere?  I took pictures of him getting the testing and the reactions.  Basically if he lives in a bubble, then he will be symptom free!  Instead, we're going to keep taking the medications he is currently taking.  While we were there, they checked his breathing...basically he was having an asthma attack.  We are switching inhalers back to the one he should have been taking.  I had to work, so Kevin took the day off of work to take Trevor and I met him there.  Here are the pictures...I know, I'm weird.

 

Dog Sitting Tilly

Mom and Dad went on a trip and we dog sat for them.  Tilly was so good!  She wouldn't poop for like two days and it was totally freaking me out.  All I could think was that the dog would get something like an impaction and need to be taken to the emergency vet.  Anyway, Trevor pulled out his bottom bunk so that he could sleep with the dog.  By Sunday night he was so frustrated with her that he slept in the top bunk and she was so happy to get the entire twin bed.  Sad, huh?  She's spoiled rotten!  She kept wanting to get on the couch--which Kevin didn't let her.  She did however manage to convince me to let her into my bed after Kevin went to work on Saturday.  She ended up stretching out and I had no room.  We have a KING SIZE BED!!!  Oh--and she did manage to get away from Trevor Saturday night.  He was taking her out to go to the bathroom and was hysterical.  We were inside and heard him screaming.  She thought it was a game...so every time he went for her, she took off.  All we had to do was make Trevor come into the house and she followed right along.  Oh the drama.  But honestly, she was really good.  Kevin said if we ever get another dog, Bulldogs are the way to go.  Completely lazy.

I did take some pictures so my Dad could see that she was okay and somewhat happy. She pouted the entire way to my house.  Wouldn't even look at me in the car.  Just sighed.  A lot.  He does seem to think she's a genius...and that she can undo one of the rope toys in like five minutes...two days later, it was still intact.  Is she really untying them, or does my Dad secretly untie them for her and then tell everyone just how smart she is?  Hmmmm....something to ponder.  Maybe Dad wasn't joking when he talked about how Tilly is so much smarter than other dogs...and that during her dog training class, she was the best.  Maybe he's like one of those pageant Moms.  He probably put itching powder in the other dogs brushes so they wouldn't do as well--like that one pageant queen in Puerto Rico.  Who knows.  Now we'll all wonder.

 

Christmas Program 1--Trevor

Grandpa Poplette's Long Lost Brother???

If you knew my Grandpa Poplette, you will so appreciate this story.  Remember...anything can be fixed or created with duct tape and Vicks Vapo Rub.

I was driving to work the other day when I came upon a man.  I actually laughed out loud.  I swear it was my Grandpa Poplette's creation the man was using.  Let me paint the picture...

The man was on an orange lawnmower (keep in mind it had just snowed--and no, POPLETTE was not stenciled on the lawnmower!)  Anyway, he had something that looked like a broomstick in his hand.  I looked again and realized what it was.  I laughed so hard I almost cried and immediately called my Mom.  He was holding the end of a shovel that he had somehow built a contraption with duct tape and wood that allowed him to put the shovel down when he went forward to clear his path and then lift up in reverse...all by hand. 

HE CREATED HIS OWN SNOW PLOW WITH A LAWNMOWER, DUCT TAPE AND A SHOVEL.  Grandpa would have been proud.  In fact, he probably would have copied it--and then made a bunch in Mom and Dad's basement, painted them to match lawnmowers and sold them.

Loveseat

So, the church program is tomorrow.  And they needed a red(ish) loveseat for the program.  We just happen to have one.  We loaded it into Kevin's truck and took it to the church.  We all walked in and Trevor (very loudly) says, "Hey Mom, is anybody going to help me move your LOVE COUCH?"  The Pastor's wife thought it was funny.  She then (I think seriously) wanted to make sure it wasn't a love couch.  Ugh.  Out  of the mouth of babes.

Santa and Jesus

Trevor asked me the other day if Santa is the brother of Jesus--because Jesus gave his life for us and Santa gives awesome presents.

Gotta love that kid.  And his thought process.  I'm pretty sure he's just trying to find out of if Santa is real. 

Going to bed.  It is so cold in here I swear I can see my breath.  I'm sleepy.  And no...it's not because I turned on the Gas oven to keep warm and it is really some sort of poisoning.  Just a cheap husband who sets the temperature on 2 degrees above freezing swearing that layering works.  Hmmm.  I'm not buying it.

Trevor has allergy testing tomorrow...which is a good thing because the poor kid can't breathe becuase he hasn't been able to take his medicine since it will mess with the tests.  I'll update tomorrow.  I'm sure you are all anxiously waiting to hear the results.  Will also update on our weekend dog sitting and with Trevor's Christmas program that was tonight.  It rocked.  38 minutes and we were done and on our way home.  My kind of program!

CONGRATULATIONS JERAMIE!!!

Okay....great news that I can't post because it is top security.  Ok.  Not really.  But that sounds cool.  Apparently Jeramie is reading our blog because he's bored.  Which we all think is a good thing.  Stay bored Jeramie!  It will make it so much more exciting when you get back home!  So--have you gotten all of your Christmas shopping done?  We haven't. In fact, I really need to get that done this weekend.  No idea what we're going to get for the kids.  We totally need to finish that up.  Too bad we gave everyone else the ideas for Christmas.  Want to know what we got everyone???

Ha!  You thought I'd tell because I'm really bad at keeping secrets.  But I won't.  Kevin hasn't figured out his gift.  YEAH!  I need to get Jeramie's gift in the mail so he gets it in time.  Trevor made him some things.

Okay.  I'm really bored and not feeling like I'm very entertaining anyone so I think I'll quit boring everyone on sign off.  Have a great night.  It's snowing here.  We lost our power tonight...but it came back on right as I got home.  How awesome was that.  So now, I'm going to put on my jammies and snuggle in my oh so comfortable i don't ever want to get out of it bed and try to finish watching House.

Speaking of which, Jeramie--are there any movies or television shows you want?  There was a really good deal on Psych--have you ever watched it?  Any series you haven't watched?  Want us to try to hook up some Grey's Anatomy?  Dexter was good.  Okay...rambling again.

WORST FLU EVER. And I mean EVER. REALLY.

Kevin is sick.  REALLY sick.  He's miserable.  He has the flu and can't keep anything down.  So, I brought him 7-Up and Crackers...he's not trying the crackers yet.  I now know what VIOLENTLY ILL means.  Normally when someone is ill, it's "I think I'm going to be sick" and they walk to the bathroom.  With this flu, it means, "RUN".  Get out of his way.  Would it be wrong to suggest he sleep on the couch?  That way I can have the bed to myself?  (It is the world's most comfortable bed!!! As if that justifies me making my really sick husband sleep on the couch) 

I am about to sound like a really mean wife, but anyone with kids or a spouse that has been sick will totally understand where I'm coming from.  In the middle of the night, about the fourth time my husband or kids are sick, what I really want to say is, "Could you close the bathroom door?  You're kind of loud in there and it is keeping me from sleeping.  And I'm really tired."  Instead, with the kids, I jump out of bed and see what I can do to help.  But deep down, I feel like I'm a bad Mom for feeling that way.  Surely someone else has felt that way.  With Kevin, I feel even worse because what I want to say is, "Can't you find the towels yourself?"  They're right where they always are.  Oh...and the ice is in the freezer just like it always is.  Instead, I get him ice water and clean up after him so he can sleep.  That should tell him how much I love him.  Poor guy. I'm getting kind of worried about him.  He really doesn't look good.  If he isn't better by tomorrow night, I think I'm going to make him go to the doctor...which he hasn't done in 13 years.  Time to go I should think.  Well I'm going to clean the house, decorate and take a nap.  (In case he's still sick tonight!)

Hopefully my flu shot was for this strain.  I really hope the kids don't get it.  I don't want Leeandra taking the bug home to her Mom.  I can't imagine being pregnant and sick with the flu.  Hopefully she won't get it!

Leeandra's Recital Pictures

Sooo...here are the pictures that you are all waiting for.  I know.  I've had so many requests.  It's kind of like when you have pictures from a vacation and everyone asks to see them. What they really mean is they want to see a picture...not the 300 you show them.  And then they are stuck.  Feeling like they have to look at each picture you took...all the different shots of you with the ocean in the background.  Like we haven't all seen that one before.  We're really just wanting to see how you look on vacation.  Okay...now you understand what I mean...recital pictures are the same.  Nobody cares.  But they ask anyway.  So, here they are!

 

 

 

Check out the jewels in her hair.  Kevin tells me at 4:00--oh, her Mom said if you want to put jewels in her hair, you can.  Now I had the hairstyle planned (check it out--took forever, but I rock!)  So I sewed the jewels in.  Lots of hairspray and bobby pins.  Doesn't she look great?  She loved the makeup.  Especially the lipstick...that's all she could focus on.  Lipstick and glitter.  So my kid.

And her Dad remembered the flowers...well, rather I did, after we got there...so, thanks Mom and Dad and Ray and Deb.  She thinks her Dad remembered and got her roses because they are her favorite.  Here's the after of her hair.  Check it out.  Think I used enough hairspray?
